I’m a little late to the party, but the time has finally come: I’ve caved and ordered subscription boxes. I’ve always loved unboxing videos on YouTube, but some people stopped doing the Boxycharm vs. Glossybox videos and I miss them. I’ve looked for blogs that review them, but I’ve never found myself satisfied, so I thought, why not look at them and decide which I like for myself? While I thought I wanted to do one post for both boxes, I thought I would split them up to make them easier to read. Plus, to be completely honest, I just can’t wait to share all of the fun products!
The August 2015 Boxycharm theme is “Gorgeous Globetrotter”, and it is right up my alley. Even if I’m not off to new countries every other weekend, I do like to visit my friends at their schools and I don’t like lugging a million products with me. My thought when opening this box is that it would be packed with perfect items that will keep me calm during travel.
I opened the box and immediately got so excited: every item is a full size! That is five full-sized items in this one $21 box.
The first item is the Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Palette – $39.95. This palette has twenty eyeshadows in a mix of satin, matte, shimmer, and full-on sparkle shades. The shades are very warm, but they’re perfect for transitioning us into fall (how is it already halfway through August). I love this palette for its purple shades, but that’s because of my green eyes. If purple isn’t your thing, this palette still has plenty of neutrals and golden shades for you to use up. Although I think a “globetrotter” box would’ve been better suited to a travel palette that included an eyeshadow quad with blush, bronzer, and maybe a highlight, it’s obvious that the versatility of the palette is why it is included. You can use these shades for both day and night, and most of the eyeshadows will be universally flattering.
Next up is the MicaBeauty Gel Eyeliner – $35.00. I love a good gel liner, and this seems up to the task of combatting my super oily eyelids. I dipped a clean eyeliner brush into this liner, and started pulling lines on my hand. As you can see, the real fading started at the sixth pull, which is pretty impressive to me. The description of the product says that it won’t smudge or fade, but only time will tell with this one. If this product does what it says I will definitely be taking it on my next roadtrip. When you’re hopping from one place to the next, you want your liner’s flick to stay put all day long.
This is the Nios Shield Leave-In Conditioner – $26.00. It’s like Boxycharm was reading my mind! I’ve been looking for a leave-in conditioner, so this product is especially exciting. Infused with Moroccan Argan Oil, the leave-in conditioner contains an SPF of 15 to save your scalp from sunburn, protect your hair’s color and texture, and potentially reduce hair loss from exposure to the sun. When I squeezed the product out, I was surprised at its color and smell. I was expecting an oily product that smelled of the Moroccan Argan Oil, but it’s a creamy white product that smells a little bit like sunscreen. This might be off putting for some people, but this is a product that is made for summer. I can definitely see taking this to the beach or to the pool, and if you have color-treated hair I would give this leave-in conditioner a shot.
The product I am most excited for in the box is the So Susan Statement Skin – $20.00. This product is a creamy highlighting crayon. I love highlighters, and when you’re traveling and not drinking enough water or eating as well as you usually are, your skin can start looking sallow. Luckily, this pretty highlighting crayon will make you look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
The final item in this box is a Seta Eyeliner Brush – $16.00. This is probably my least exciting item, but it’s not because of the quality or brand. Generally, I like to use angled eyeliner brushes because they work better for me. However, if you like thin and teeny tiny liner brushes, this is a product you can be excited for! The brush is very soft and doesn’t seem to come apart while using it (I used it to make the lines with the gel liner in the box), so those aggravating black dots of floating liner will be a non-issue.
Box Value: $110.95
